Over 15K soldiers join local absentee voting

AROUND 15,842 troops of the Philippine Army participated in the first three-day of the Local Absentee Voting at Fort Bonifacio and key camps nationwide for the midterm elections.

The PA leadership called on soldiers to exercise their voting rights and assured of the organization’s strict adherence to non-partisanship.

The Commission on Elections has approved a total of 57,689 LAV voters, including 29,030 Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) personnel, 23,448 policemen, 4,206 government employees and 1,005 members of the media.

“Our role right now in the Army is to prepare the troops and our units in supporting the PNP and the Comelec in this endeavor,” Army Chief Lt. Gen Roy M. Galido said in an earlier media briefing.

“All of us are committed because we want this democratic exercise successful…the whole Army is closely coordinating with concerned government agencies to make this election a success,” the Army chief emphasized.”

The Philippine Army also assures the public of its commitment to non-partisanship and professionalism as it focuses on its mandate of safeguarding national security and maintaining stability especially during the crucial election period.
