San Beda notches first win
SAN Beda picked up its first win in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament with a 21-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-13 victory over San Sebastian yesterday at the Filoil EcoOil Centre.
Angel Habacon dropped all but one of her 25 points on 24 attacks to lead the Lady Red Spikers in ending a 10-match losing skid.
It was Habacon’s second game back since returning from a full tear MCL on her right knee that sidelined last season’s Rookie of the Year most of the first round.
“Parang nanalo kami ng championship” Habacon said.
The Lady Stags, meanwhile, remained outside of the Final Four range with their fifth defeat in 11 matches.
Laika Tudlasan hammered 26 kills as Arellano University outlasted Mapua, 26-28, 25-14, 22-25, 25-23, 15-10, to move in a tie with University of Perpetual Help System Dalta and its victims at 7-4.
The Lady Chiefs unloaded a 13-3 run to force a deciding fifth set and the Lady Cardinals never recovered from there.
In the men’s division, Joshua Espenida registered a game-high 20 points, including two blocks, as San Sebastian posted its first winning streak of the season with a 25-23, 25-18, 17-25, 25-19 romp of San Beda.
