THE Philippine National Police (PNP) has vowed to actively go after individuals who resort to threats, black propaganda, and defamation on social media platforms as the upcoming national and local elections nears.

Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) Chief Brig. Gen. Bernard Yang made the statement after ATeacher partylist nominee Virginia Rodriguez filed a complaint against individuals using fake Facebook and Tiktok accounts to attack and ruin her character and the Partylist group.

The PNP said it is crucial to recognize the potential harm these actions can inflict on our society and the electoral process.

“By addressing these issues head-on, we can foster a safer and more respectful online environment that upholds the values of democracy. Taking a firm stance against these harmful practices is essential for safeguarding the integrity of our democratic system,” the PNP official said.

On the other hand, P/Col Andres O. Simbajon Jr., Deputy Director for Administration, Anti-cybercrime Group-PNP, has vowed to ensure that the law is applied rigorously to deter such malicious behavior and protect the rights of all citizens to engage in free and fair elections.

“By doing so, we not only defend our democratic principles but also promote a culture of accountability and respect in public discourse,” Simbajon added.

Meanwhile, lawyers and supporters of ATeacher partylist has warned individuals and groups from conducting malicious and illegal moves to attack her character, saying they have already identified those involved in illegal activities.

Some of these individuals were identified after former Rep. Julieta Fortuna, who is also a nominee of ATeacher partylist, encountered spiteful questions and damaging accusations concerning the character of the partylist nominees.

The ATeacher partylist, currently leading in nearly all national polls, is facing a wave of negative social media attacks from fake and fraudulent Facebook accounts.

According to the lawyers, the individuals orchestrating the smear campaign and black propaganda against the ATeacher have been identified, and there is sufficient evidence to file legal action against them.

She said the attacks against them started after the ATeacher Partylist took the top spot in various polls survey ratings, showing that the people are fully supporting the advocacies and programs of the partylist in the coming midterm and national elections.

The complaint highlighted the serious nature of the attacks they have been facing, emphasizing the need to protect not only her own dignity but also that of her colleagues, as they strive to serve the public through their political platform.

The complaint is aimed to address the harmful narratives being spread online, which threaten their credibility and the values they represent. By taking this step, Rodriguez seeks to hold accountable those responsible for the defamation and to restore the integrity of their campaign.
