DON’T look now, but the election campaign period is doing a great job in meeting the employment needs of the Filipino people.

Statistics show that there were 1.94 million people without jobs last February, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

During the first month of the year, the number of jobless Filipinos was 2.16 million, according to the PSA.

“Talagang dumami ang nagkaroon ng trabaho noong umarangkada na ang kampanya,” a registered voter said.

The election campaign period for national candidates started on February 11, a good 90 days before election day on May 12.

Reports said the increase in the number of employed people was attributed to poll hiring as the election approaches.

National candidates are those running for senator and party-list organizations.

Without doubt, the start of the 90-day-election campaign period “ay pinakahihintay sa Pilipinas.”

If their candidates win, these rah-rah boys and girls hope to be hired as government permanent, casual or contractual employees.

Local candidates started campaigning last March 28, which is 45 days before election day.
