Paying taxes now easier with EOPT — Gatchalian
AHEAD of the April 15 deadline for the filing of income tax returns, Senator Win Gatchalian said taxpayers will now have an easier time fulfilling their tax obligations as provisions of the Ease of Paying Taxes (EOPT) Act have been fully implemented.
“The availability of digital channels for filing income tax returns and tax payments makes it a lot easier for taxpayers to comply with their tax commitments. This means they can file and pay anytime and anywhere they want,” said Gatchalian, the measure’s main author and chairperson of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means.
According to him, taxpayers no longer need to fall in line at a bank or tax office, a task that took a lot of time and energy from ordinary taxpayers.
Because it is now a lot easier for taxpayers to comply, Gatchalian said he is confident that the implementation of the EOPT law would help shore up the government’s revenue collection efforts, which is one of the objectives of the EOPT measure.
“Inaasahan natin na makakamit ng gobyerno ang layunin nito na makakolekta ng mas maraming buwis kahit walang ipinapataw na bagong buwis. Malaking tulong ito para maisagawa ang mga programa ng gobyerno na makakatulong para maiahon sa kahirapan ang marami nating mga kababayan,” he ended.
