
WesMin cops capture suspect in killing of Zambo Norte village chief
WESTERN Mindanao policemen on Thursday captured a main suspect in the killing of a 50-year- old barangay chairman in Polanco, Zamboanga del Norte, Police Regional Office 9 director Brig. Gen. Roel C. Rodolfo said yesterday.
The suspect, who was described as a 43-year-old resident of Bgy Balucot in Tambulig, Zamboanga del Sur, has been identified as one of the men involved in the murder of Leopoldo Atad, the chairman of Bgy. Macleodes in Polanco, Zamboanga del Norte around 8:54 p.m. last Tuesday.
Rodolfo said that the suspect was identified thru witnesses’ accounts, analysis of all available CCTV footages in the area, as well as the recovery of a motorcycle used by the killers.
Three other suspects are being hunted as of press time.
The PRO9 director said that members of the PRO9 Regional Intelligence Division and Regional Mobile Force Battalion, the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, the Zamboanga del Norte Police Provincial Office, and the Armed Forces were involved in the arrest of the suspect during a hot pursuit operation.
Follow-up operations are underway to capture the rest of the gunmen, Brig. Gen. Rodolfo said.
