Tolentino1VALENZUELA CITY – Reelectionist Senator Francis ‘TOL’ Tolentino lauded the Valenzuela City government for taking the initiative to facilitate the transfer of official license plates from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to the city’s tricycle operators and drivers associations (TODA).

“It’s my first time to see a local government unit leading the way to facilitate and fast track the transfer of license plates to tricycle owners and drivers. I salute you,” Tolentino told Valenzuela Mayor Wes Gatchalian, who was in the audience along with TODA members, at the turnover ceremonies.

Turning to LTO Chief Vigor Mendoza, who was also in the audience, the senator remarked: “I have long been calling on the LTO to address its plate backlog, today we’re on the same side.”

In response, Mendoza told the senator that the agency’s backlog has been reduced to seven million – from a high of nine million last year.

To recall, it was Tolentino who called on the LTO to halt its controversial policy to prohibit and fine the use of temporary license plates.

The senator also led the passage of Senate Bill No. 2555, which aims to amend the controversial provisions of the ‘Doble Plaka Law.’

Tolentino is also the principal author of Senate Bill No. 1275, which seeks to accord benefits to delivery platform motorcycle riders under the Labor Code, including just wages, job security, and social protection.

Concluding his speech, the senator emphasized that the responsibility of efficiently distributing license plates falls not just on the LTO, but also the motorcycle dealers.
