ALBAY Rep. Joey Sarte Salceda and Deputy Majority Leader Franz Pumaren on Thursday welcomed President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s appointment of Vince Dizon as the new Secretary of the Department of Transportation (DoTr), replacing Jaime Bautista, who resigned.

Salceda also welcomed Dizon’s appointment, saying he had a chance to work with Dizon on key issues during the COVID-19 pandemic and after.

“I have relied on his advice for many important policy decisions. He was also an important ally as I presided over the passage in Congress of the tax reform program,” Salceda said.

“When you need a job done, you hire Vince and the job gets done. I am sure he will bury himself in the work of the DOTr immediately. I am also certain of quick confirmation by the CA (Commission on Appointments),” he added.

Salceda also thanked Dizon’s predecessor Jaime Bautista “for his service and his friendship. I wish him the best as he tends to his health.”

Pumaren, representative of Quezon City’s 3rd District, said he expects Dizon, former president and CEO of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority, to accelerate key transport projects, particularly the Metro Manila Subway, a crucial infrastructure initiative aimed at easing urban congestion.

“President Marcos made the right decision in appointing Secretary Vince Dizon. He has a proven track record in infrastructure development and the expertise to ensure the completion of the administration’s ambitious transport projects,” said Pumaren.

Pumaren agreed, as he stressed the need for decisive leadership to fast-track modern transport solutions

“We need a DoTr chief who can get things done, and Secretary Dizon is exactly that. His leadership and experience in handling large-scale infrastructure projects will help ensure that long-delayed transport initiatives are finally completed,” said Pumaren.

Bautista, a former Philippine Airlines executive, resigned due to health reasons after nearly two years in office.

Pumaren acknowledged Bautista’s efforts in improving air, land and sea transport, thanking him for his contributions.

“We appreciate the work of former Secretary Bautista, who took on the enormous challenge of leading the DoTr,” Pumaren said.

“Now, we are confident that Secretary Dizon will not only continue these initiatives but will push them to greater heights, especially the Metro Manila Subway,” Pumaren added.

The subway is a centerpiece of Marcos’ infrastructure agenda, designed to ease congestion and improve urban mobility. Lawmakers believe Dizon’s leadership will ensure its timely completion.

Having served as Presidential Adviser for Flagship Programs and Projects, Dizon is seen as the ideal choice to oversee large-scale transport modernization efforts.

Pumaren expressed belief his experience makes him highly capable of handling the DoTr’s complex mandate.

With Dizon at the helm, Congress expects sustained momentum in infrastructure development, ensuring faster, safer, and more efficient transportation systems nationwide.
