A CHILD and a teenager who were among three people carried away by a rushing waterfall on Sunday were found dead in Catmon, Cebu.

Rescuers found the body of 7-year-old Princess Alastra, of Bgy. Talangahan, Tuburan and Kent Jude Monterola, 17, hours after they were swept away by waterfall and mud at 1:01 p.m. last Sunday.

Search continues for Jacel, 32, mother of Princess.

Monterola is a nephew of Jacel.

The victims were among a group of 17 families who rented cottages for an outing at the Tinubdan Falls in Bgy. Tabili, Catmon.

Tinubdan Falls is a popular tourist spot in Cebu.

They were swimming when hit by an unexpected rush of water from the mountain.

Witnesses said the three were swept away by the raging water and mud while the others managed to hold on to the large rocks and the vegetation on the riverside.

A prober said the floodwater came suddenly. It was raining in the mountain, but there was no rain where the victims were.

1 PDL killed in Surigao jailbreak try a terror group member

ONE of the four killed persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) who engaged jail officers in a gun fight during a Sunday morning jailbreak try was an alleged member of the feared communist terrorist group, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology said yesterday.

Jail Director Allan Iral said that only one of the slain jailbirds was an alleged member of the terror group.

He identified the slain inmate only as PDL Tejero. The full names of the other inmates were not released by the Bureau.

According to BJMP spokesperson Chief Insp. Xavier Solda, they had to seek permission from the family of the concerned PDLs before releasing their names.

Earlier reports said that the four slain jailbirds are CTGs.

Eleven PDLs almost succeeded in bolting the Liangga District Jail in Surigao del Sur after they overpowered the duty guard in the first gate who opened the door for the delivery of the inmates’ breakfast.

The incident occurred around 6:50 a.m. last Sunday.

After overshadowing the duty officer, the inmates took his firearm and held him hostage.

They stormed another duty guard manning the second gate. The officer was able to fire warning shots but the jailbreakers were too much for him as they seized control of the door and his service firearm.

Other duty officers, who were alerted by the commotion, responded and successfully prevented the inmates from escaping.

Solda said that the jail officers took only eight minutes to secure the jail.

One of the personnel was injured after he was stabbed at the height of the escape try.

Director Iral immediately placed the Liangga District Jail under a red alert status while ordering the CARAGA region to conduct an in-depth investigation into the foiled escape try.

According to Solda, although the BJMP is saddened by the turn of events, this should also serve as a lesson to the PDLs who have black plans to bolt.

“Ganunpaman, hindi kami matitinag sa pagtupad ng aming tungkulin. Magbabanatay pa rin kami ng mabuti sa aming pasilidad at magsilbi kami sa aming mga PDL sa abot ng aming makakaya upang matulungan natin sila sa kanilang pagbabagong buhay,” he added.
