Lovi asserts: ‘Guilty Pleasure’ will be a conversation piece
LOVI Poe, who’s now married to LA-based British producer, Monty Blencowe, keeps on coming back to Manila even if she should be based in Hollywood where she is slowly building her own career as an actress. But she loves Philippine showbiz so much that now, she not only plays the lead role in the upcoming sexy film “Guilty Pleasure,” but which she and her husband also co-produced via her own C’est Lovi Productions together with Regal Entertainment.
It tells the story of a headstrong lawyer named Alexis (Poe) who’s torn between an intern named Matthew (Jameson Blake) and the more experienced Adam (JM de Guzman).
Lovi has always loved writing and making film concepts, perhaps something that runs in her blood. Her father, the late King of Philippine movies, Fernando Poe, Jr. was also a great storyteller via his films which he wrote, produced and directed.
“I remember that it started with the 2023 film ‘Seasons.’ I enjoyed being part of the process, and I thought I can keep doing this,” Poe recalled during the film’s press conference. “There are just so many stories that I wanna tell and showcase. I want to get into scriptwriting. That’s what sparked it. And with my mentor and husband — since he also produces films abroad — so he teaches me,” she said.
And now that she’s capable of producing films, she jumped onboard but with Regal Entertainment where she did a lot of unforgettable films. “I’ve been a Regal baby since I started. And so, to be honest, it really is an honor to be working with Regal because they’re a very established film company,” she explained.
Meanwhile, despite its sexy theme, she wants to offer “Guilty Pleasure” as a conversation piece among audiences and film enthusiasts, as well.
“It’s the story. I remember when I read the script, it was something that it was a bit risky. It’s something that’s talked about commonly, so for myself, of course, we’re always there to entertain and make people happy,” she said. “But with this, we’re here to spark a conversation. And I’m already blown away.”
Lovi doesn’t hide the fact that the film is loaded with sexy scenes with her leading men, JM de Guzman and Jameson Blake. “The sexiness of the film is just the tip of the iceberg. There’s so much depth in this story. And everyone did an amazing job,” she teased.
‘Guilty Pleasure’ also stars Sarah Edwards, Dustin Yu, and Angelica Lao and directed by the very intelligent Connie Macatuno.. It will be seen in theaters starting on October 16.
