CREAMLINE, seeking its first Reinforced Conference crown in five years, is ecstatic over its standout import, a crucial asset for its Premier Volleyball League campaign to overcome the absence of one of its ace spikers starting tomorrow.

As rival teams rave about their prized recruits from the historic rookie draft, the Cool Smashers feel that their American reinforcement, Erica Staunton, as the ideal fit for the Cool Smashers, both in terms of personality and skill set.

This seamless integration has been vital for Staunton’s smooth transition into the league’s most successful team, boasting eight championships but last won the Reinforced title in 2018.

Staunton is anticipated to bolster Creamline’s starting rotation and offensive threat, compensating for the absence of Jema Galanza, who is committed to Alas Pilipinas.

“Erica truly complements our team in character, attitude and playing style,” said team captain Valdez. “For me, it’s clear that she perfectly fits our system.”

The former league MVP also expressed her excitement about teaming up with the 23-year-old spiker, confident that Staunton will play a pivotal role in the Cool Smashers’ quest to reclaim the throne.

PetroGazz, which brought back Cuban Wilma Salas as its import, clinched the crown in 2019 and 2022. There was no Reinforced Conference last season.

With Staunton in their fold, Creamline is eager to pursue a third consecutive championship after sweeping the last two All-Filipino crowns.

“We’re excited to see her contribute and help the team. She’s a joy to be around both on and off the court,” Valdez said.

Coach Sherwin Meneses noted that the 6-foot-1 Staunton blended exceptionally well with the Cool Smashers during their buildup for the conference.

“So far, the adjustment has been excellent. The time given to us to integrate our import has been fruitful. Now, we’re just waiting for the game results,” said Meneses.

Staunton and the Cool Smashers get the chance to display their wares right on the opening day of the mid-season conference, when Creamline takes on PLDT in the 6 p.m. main of a triple-header at the Philsports Arena.

Galeries Tower and Nxled kick off hostilities at 2 p.m. while Chery Tiggo and Farm Fresh mix it up at 4 p.m.
