AS an agricultural country, the Philippines, a rice and corn producer, needs to establish enough food hubs or food terminals.

This is to enable the buyers (traders) and sellers (farmers and fishers) venues to transact business throughout the year.

Tasked to build these “food terminals,” which will be equipped with cold storage facilities, is the Department of Agriculture.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said the establishment of “food hubs” will be a big help to the farmers and fishermen.

“Malaking tulong ang mga “food terminal” na ito para lumaki ang kita ng mga magsasaka at mangingisda,” said a village exec.

He said these establishments “provide consumers access to fresh and affordable agricultural products,” particularly meat. fish and vegetables.

Secretary Laurel said these food terminals will serve as the agriculture department’s logistics roadmap.

While the management of food hubs will be under the purview of the Food Terminal, Inc., a Kadiwa component will be integrated into their operations.

The agriculture department deserves the full support of the public as it exerts efforts to help the farmers, fishermen, traders and consumers.
