Congressman Lani Mercado and Bryan Revilla accept Comedy Actor of the Year trophy for Senator Bong Revilla, Jr. from Guillermo Mendoza Foundation for Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis

HIS venture into the action-sitcom anew in GMA 7’s ‘Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis,’ earned for senator-action star Bong Revilla, Jr. the Comedy Actor of the Year in Guillermo 2024 Box Office Entertainment Awards.

The Titanic Action Star once again proved his diversity as an actor after being recognized by the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation in this year’s Box Office Entertainment Awards held last May 12.

Apart from being the country’s top action star, Bong has been recognized for his projects that blend hard action with light and funny moments.

He was selected by the board of jurors of Guillermo Foundation in recognition of the high ratings of the TV adaptation of the 90’s movie of the same title, where Bong starred in.

As the seasoned actor is still recovering from an Achilles tear, he was represented by his wife Congresswoman Lani Mercado-Revilla and eldest son, Agimat Partylist Congressman Bryan Revilla in the awarding ceremony.

Bong’s latest trophy is an addition to his four Box Office Entertainment Awards for Box Office King from Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation.

He was also awarded Best Comedy Actor in the 2001 PMPC (Philippine Movie Press Club) Star Awards for TV for his phenomenal sitcom, Idol Ko si Kap. The trophy, however, was received by his wife, Lani Mercado and eldest son, Bryan.

“I am deeply honored and grateful to be selected as the Comedy Actor of the Year in this esteemed Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation’s Box Office Entertainment Awards,” said Bong. “I am truly humbled.

“Nagpapasalamat po ako sa lahat ng sumuporta sa Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis sa nakalipas na dalawang season,” Bong said in a pre-recorded video message played during the event.

“Ang award na ito ay hindi lang para sa akin kundi para sa lahat ng tumawa, nakiiyak at nakisaya.”

Bong, who played Major Bartolome Reynaldo or more iconically known as Tolome, tickled the hearts of the many viewers of ‘Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis.’

With his funny, strong-but-submissive character, especially to his wife Gloria, played by Beauty Gonzales, many were hooked to the series.

‘Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis’ started airing on GMA last June 2023 for its first season. Due to its consistently high ratings, the show was renewed for another season last February and concluded just last week.

“My gratitude, of course, sa mga kasama kong mahuhusay na artista at sa lahat ng production crew na kung hindi dahil sa kanila ay hindi magiging posible ang Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis, maraming maraming salamat po,” said Bong.

“Let’s continue spreading laughter and positivity wherever we go. Mabuhay ang Guillermo! Mabuhay ang Philippine Entertainment!,” Bong concluded.

Meanwhile, the 57-year-old senator filed his medical leave in the Senate last May 14, after the surgery on his Achilles tendon suffered a tear. The medical leave was filed before the office of Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri.

“This is to inform your Office that as necessitated by my medical condition and following my doctor’s advice, I will be on medical leave,” stated Senator Bong’s letter.

Attached to the letter is Senator Bong’s medical certificate for his acute tendon of Achilles rupture in the right ankle issued by orthopedic and spine surgeon, Mikhail Lew P. Ver of St. Luke’s Medical Center.

“Upon the latest inspection over the right ankle after change of dressing last May 13, we have noted some area of bleeding and mild dehiscence.

“We have advised that he keeps the leg elevated at all times for the next two weeks (May 14 to May 31) to decrease potential swelling that can aggravate out post-operative wound site.

“Not reporting for onsite work will provide the best scenario for his wound healing so that he can readily elevate the leg. The wound will be dressed regularly with microdacyn hydrogel and hydrocolloid dressings.

“We are still on the watch for possible skin necrosis and progression of wound dehiscence on the posterior right ankle.

“It is still recommended that immediate elevation be done after brief periods of activity. Prolonged periods of resting the foot on the floor should still be avoided.”
