NCRAA: Patriots strike back

THERE will be a third and deciding game in the 30th National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) finals.

De La Salle University-Dasmariñas came back with a vengeance to defeat defending champion Immaculada Concepcion College, 109-100, in Game 2 at the CSJDM Sports Complex in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan.

Ronroy Bunda exploded with 30 points, including 6-of-12 from beyond the arc, to power the Dasmariñas-based Patriots of coach Tito Reyes to victory and force a winner-take-all game on Wednesday at the Imus Sports Complex.

Bunda also had four assists and four rebounds in 36 minutes of action.

Gio Santiago added 19 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, while JL Rasonable contributed 19 points and six rebounds.

Rogelio Calagos also stepped up for the Patriots as he finished with a near triple-double of 18 points, 12 assists, eight rebounds, and four steals.

PJ Delos Santos chipped in with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Alfred Flores and Jared Vento carried the fight for the Blue Hawks of coach Ogie Gumatay, combining for 49 points in a losing effort.

Flores tallied 25 points on 8-of-21 shooting from the floor, along with four rebounds and four assists in 32 minutes of play, while Vento contributed 24 points and eight rebounds.

Tutoy Ramirez added a double-double of 18 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists while Paul Gadin had 16 points.

The Patriots established their biggest lead of the game of 24 points, 78-54, with 3: 41 left in the third quarter.

But the Blue Hawks slowly cut the deficit to nine points at 81-90 with 5:51 remaining in the fourth quarter. Bunda responded with a triple to extend the Patriots’ advantage to 12 points.

Flores was fouled in the three-point territory and made all three free throws, bringing the score to 84-93, before Bunda hit another crucial triple.

With 2:56 left, Marc Lopez completed an and-1 play to reduce the deficit to six at 92-98. Rasonable converted his own and-1 opportunity to extend the Patriots’ lead to nine.

Ramirez and Rasonable exchanged baskets, and after Calagos committed a turnover. Vento grabbed an offensive rebound and made it 96-103.

James Puda made two free throws, followed by Flores grabbing an offensive rebound and scoring on a lay-up.

Rasonable hit a difficult shot to extend their lead to 107-98 with 51 seconds remaining.

After Vento made a lay-up, Bunda sank two free throws to seal the game.
