Price rollback

THE beleaguered Filipino people, particularly the jobless and the poorest of the poor, welcomed this week’s “hefty” rollback in oil prices in the country.

We believe that the price rollback will also bring down the prices of certain consumer products.

This is good news since some businessmen have no moral scruples and overprice their products when there’s an oil price increase in the world market.

In the view of many, the availability of low-priced basic commodities is a must for the survival of the poor.

Based on the estimates of industry players, the price of diesel will have a significant reduction of P3 to P3.40 per liter, while the cost of kerosene will be cut by P2 to P2.40 per liter.

For gasoline products, the price will be slashed by P0.60 to P1.00 per liter, according to reports.

With the announcement, the government, through concerned offices and agencies, ought to monitor the prices of basic commodities in the local market.
