Zero budget cut for judiciary pushed
A PARTY LIST solon is pushing for The Judiciary’s full budget or no cut for 2024.
Duterte Youth party-list Rep. Drixie Mae Cardema highlighted the Judiciary’s status as an independent and co-equal branch of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines.
The proposed budget of the Judiciary is P71.91 billion.
However, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) cut the proposed budget to P57.79 billion.
“Bakit mabagal ang sinasabing hustisya sa bansa? Dahil kulang tayo sa mga Judges and Courts sa ating bansa na didinig sa mga kaso ng bayan. Kailangan tulungan ang Korte Suprema sa kanilang mandato na magsaayos ng mas maraming korte sa ating bansa na mag-aasikaso sa tambak-tambak na nagiging kaso sa lahat ng panig ng buong bansa,” according to Cardema
“ Puro tayo reklamo na mabagal daw ang hustisya sa bansa, di naman natin binibigay ang kanilang kailangang buong budget pang-operate para makabuo sila ng mga solusyon,” Cardema added.
Cardema urged the Legislative branch to restore the budget proposal of the Judiciary.
“Sa three co-equal branches of government, Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary, dapat irekomenda buo ng Executive at ipasa buo ng Legislative yung proposed budget ng co-equal branch nila na Judiciary at hindi ilinya ito na parang isa sa lampas isang daang departamento, ahensya, at GOCC ng gobyerno na kelangan pa manghiling at lumapit sa co-equal branches of government para mapondohan. Fiscal Autonomy para sa Judiciary ay kailangan na talaga,” she said.
The Duterte Youth Party-List will recommend during this budget season a true fiscal autonomy for the Judicial Branch.
“Upang hindi mahirapan sa kanilang budgetary concerns, at katulad ng Malacanang at Kongreso, ay magawa na ng Supreme Court lahat ng kanilang kailangang reporma at initiatives para bumilis ang hustisya sa bansa. For this budget season, wag kaltasin ang halos P14 billion mula sa kanilang proposed budget.” Cardema also said.
