Camp Olivas, City of San Fernando, Pampanga — Eight persons were arrested for violating the ban on illegal firecrackers, four were held for indiscriminate firing in Bulacan while 15 firecracker-related injuries were recorded in Angeles City, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, and Pampanga with no fatal casualties.

PRO3 director Brig. Gen. Matthew Baccay said the numbers could be attributed to a series of inspections conducted by the PRO3 command group and staff together with provincial and city police offices on firecracker manufacturers and stores.

Also lauded was the massive information drive and campaign initiated by the PNP and different government agencies on the need to regulate or avoid the use of firecrackers as well as the designation of firecracker zones by local government units.

He stressed that no firearm of PNP personnel was involved in indiscriminate firing during the New Year eve’s celebration.

“I commend the entire Central police force for a job well done, putting aside their personal convenience and comfort in exchange for a peaceful, safe, and injury-free Holiday celebration. I would like also to thank our public for their continuous cooperation with us which immensely contributed to a safe merriment,” Baccay said.
