6 PNP SENIOR OFFICIALS PROMOTED
PHILIPPINE National Police chief General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. yesterday led the oath-taking and donning of ranks of six newly-promoted police star-rank officers led by Criminal Investigation and Detection Group director, new Major Gen. Romeo M. Caramat Jr.
Apart from Caramat, the others who took their oath of office before the PNP chief were newly-promoted Brigadier Generals Marcelo B. Dayag, Lou F. Evangelista, Owen S. Andarino, Albert G. Magno and Benjamin DL Sembrano.
The six will be facing a more bigger responsibility with their promotion which was approved by President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ R. Marcos Jr. upon the recommendation of Gen. Acorda and the National Police Commission chaired by Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin ‘Benhur’ C. Abalos Jr.
Gen. Acorda congratulated the six for their promotion even as he challenged them to work harder in advancing his five focused agenda for a better and more effective police force which centers on personnel morale and welfare, community engagement, integrity enhancement, ICT development and honest law enforcement operations.
A widower, Maj. Gen. Caramat is a bemedaled officer from Philippine Military Academy ‘Tanglaw-Diwa’ Class of 1992 who previously commanded the Bulacan Police Provincial Office, the PNP Counter-Intelligence Task Force, the PNP Drug Enforcement Group and the Police Regional Office 13 in Caraga region.
He was the PNP Deputy Director for Intelligence before being named as PNP-CIDG director by former PNP chief, now retired Gen. Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr. last January 8, the very same day that Caramat’s wife, Calasiao, Pangasinan Mayor Mamilyn ‘Maya’ Caramat passed away due to an illness at the age of 53.
Dayag is currently the Executive Officer of the PNP Directorate for Research and Development while Evangelista is the director of the Police-Community Affairs and Development Group.
Andarino is the Deputy Regional Director for Administration of the Police Regional Office 8 in Eastern Visayas while Magno is the director of the PNP EOD/K9 Group.
Sembrano has been the Executive Officer of the PNP Directorate for Personnel and Records Management since August 2022. He finally got his promotion after 11-months of waiting.
Brig. Generals Evangelista and Andarino both belong to PNP Academy ‘Sandigan’ Class of 1994 while Brig. Generals Magno and Sembrano are both members of PNPA ‘Patnubay’ Class of 1995.
Brig. Gen. Dayag joined the PNP in 1991 thru the Officers’ Candidate Course.
The promotion of the six was delayed by the move by Sec. Abalos to call for all PNP 3rd-Level Officers to tender their courtesy resignation to President Marcos Jr. last last January in order to pave the way for a thorough cleansing of the PNP Officers’ Corps especially those with drug links.
The approval of the promotion of Maj. Gen. Caramat and the five new one-star police generals meant they were among those cleared by a 5-Man Committee and the Napolcom of drug links.
