526 take 17th Shari’ah Bar Exams
A TOTAL of 526 out of 653 examinees completed the 17th Shari’ah Bar Examinations held on March 20 and 22, 2022 at the University of the Philippines Diliman (UP Diliman) in Quezon City.
Out of 653, only 532 examinees took the test on the first day. On the second day, six more examinees were unable to take the examinations. Thus, only 526 candidates completed the exams.
The 17th Shari’ah Bar Examinations, conducted by the SC thru the Office of the Bar Confidant, were simultaneously held at the College of Engineering, the College of Arts and Letters, the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy, and the School of Economics of UP Diliman.
Associate Professor and UP Institute of Islamic Studies Dean Macrina A. Morados was the chairperson of the 17th Shari’ah Bar Examinations.
SC Associate Justice Japar B. Dimaampao, the chairperson of the 16th Shari’ah Bar Examinations, visited the UP testing sites.
The Shari’ah Bar Examinations are administered to allow Muslim professionals to qualify and practice before the Shari’ah Courts in the Philippines.
The Shari’ah Courts were constituted under Presidential Decree 1083, or the Code of Muslim Personal Laws of the Philippines.
The Shari’ah courts are courts of justice that have original jurisdiction over cases involving violations of PD 1083.
The subjects on the first day were Persons, Family Relations and Property; and Jurisprudence (FIQH) and Customary Laws (ADAT), while the subjects on the second day were Procedure in Shari’ah Courts; and Succession, Wills/Adjudication and Settlement of Estate.
