5 people were struck by Lightning in Cavite
GENERAL TRIAS CITY, Cavite. Two are dead including a 10-year-old student and a 16-year-old teenager after they were struck by lightning during heavy rain, Thursday, May 25, 2023 in Barangay Pasong Camachile 2 and San Francisco here.
‘According to the mother of Xian Parangan, sinabihan ko na sya na pumirme na sa bahay at maulan, lumabas pa talaga sya para magpalipad ng Saranggola, kasama ang kanyang mga kaibigan na laging kasama.’
On the same day of the incident in separate barangays in the said city, the incident of the death of two people and the injury of 3 others including 2 minor students after they were struck by lightning.
The police identified the dead victims as Xian Agripa Parangan, 10 years old, student of Pasong Camachile Elementary School and resident of Brgy Pasong Camachile 2 Gen Trias, and Edison Hachero, 16 years old, resident of Brgy. Santiago Gen Trias City.
Injured and currently being observed at the hospital are 3 other victims identified as John Carlo Mira, 9 years old, Vince Angelo Angcaya, 10 years old both of Brgy Pasong Camachile 2 and Jovic Gubat, adult, resident of Brgy. Santiago Gen Trias City who suffered an injury to his thigh.
In the report gathered from Police Col Jose O Naparato Jr, police chief of this city, the first incident occurred around 4 pm in Sitio Kiko Rosa, Barangay San Francisco of the said city where it was raining heavily.
It is said that the two victims (Hachero and Gubat) were just standing in the middle of the road where they were working, not far from their barracks and waiting for the rain to stop when suddenly a strong lightning struck them directly at exactly 4 in the afternoon.
Both of them were shocked and immediately ran to Gen. Trias Medicare Hospital in Barangay Pinagtipunan but the 16-year-old victim was declared dead on arrival while Gubat is currently being observed at the hospital.
Following this at around 5 in the afternoon in Brgy Pasong Camachile 2 where the 3 minor victims Parangan, Mira and Angcaya were allegedly flying a kite in the open field of the area when suddenly it was said to be pouring heavy rain so they decided to who took shelter in the big tree.
When the victims were under the tree, there was a sudden thunder and lightning that hit the said tree and also hit the 3 victims.
They were all squirming and were immediately rushed to the hospital by the eyewitnesses, but the victim, Parangan, who was struck by lightning, was declared dead on arrival.
While his two other friends were wounded and observed in PGH Manila.
The local government here under Mayor Luis Ferrer IV immediately acted on the needs of the victims. (Gaudencio Abrina Jr)
