28 Filipinas attend training camp
THE Philippines, now under new coach Mark Torcaso, has called up 28 Filipinas for a training camp.
The holdovers from the historic FIFA Women’s World Cup squad who received call ups are Hali Long, Sofia Harrison, Anicka Castañeda, Jacklyn Sawicki and goalkeeper Kaiya Jota.
Inna Palacios, Maya Alcantara and Isabella Pasion, who were the team’s reserves in the World Cup, are also part in the week-long training camp.
Making their return are veteran internationalists Cam Rodriguez, Shai del Campo, Shelah Cadag and Hazel Lustan.
Regine Rebosura, a UAAP Season 85 Rookie of the Year winner from Far Eastern University, leads the 11 newcomers who are trying to earn spots in the Filipinas’ two key tournaments starting this month.
Rebosura’s college teammate Dionesa Tolentin and PFF Women’s League leading goalscorer Lyka Teves and Maye Mendaño of La Salle were among the newcomers who also selected.
The camp has started at the Rizal Memorial Stadium last Monday and will end today.
Torcaso, who was appointed last August 23, will handle the Philippines in the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China later this month and the AFC Olympic Qualifiers in Perth, Australia next month.
