1,677 cops with COVID-19 in very good hands –Eleazar

PHILIPPINE National Police Deputy Chief for Administration and concurrent Administrative Support for Joint COVID-19 Task Force Lieutenant General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar yesterday assured the public that they are fully taking care of 1,677 police personnel considered as active virus patients at present.

“They are very well taken care of, our Station Health Units are monitoring these patients to see to it that appropriate medical support will be provided them,” the official told the Journal Group.

As of Sunday, Lt. Gen. Eleazar said that the PNP Health Service has already recorded a total of 20,509 COVID-19 cases in the police force with 18,776 recoveries already.

Since March last year to date, 56 police personnel have died after contracting the dreaded virus, the highest ranked a 1-star general.

Eleazar said that on Sunday, they recorded 118 new cases nationwide, with two of the patients inside Camp Crame and 25 being taken care of in facilities outside the PNP National Headquarters but inside Metro Manila.

The PNP’s no. 2 official said that of the 1,677 ‘Active Cases’ in the police force, 122 are inside Camp Crame, 294 outside Camp Crame but inside the National Capital Region and 1,261 others in the other police regional offices outside of the metropolis.

He said that 51 of the ‘active cases’ are already undergoing treatment in non-PNP hospitals while 811 are undergoing isolation in PNP-run isolation and treatment facilities. The rest are confined in non-PNP facilities.

Lt. Gen. Eleazar said that 914 of the ‘active cases’ or 54.5 percent of the total are considered as ‘asymptomatic’ while 433 or 25.8 percent are ‘symptomatic-mild cases.’ He said that they have not monitored any ‘severe’ case to date but are keeping tab of 360 other cases of 19.7 percent of the total for validation purposes.

As of yesterday, PNP Health Service director, Brigadier Gen. Luisito P. Magnaye said that a total of 12,154 police personnel or 5.54 percent of the total PNP population have already been vaccinated.

Magnaye said that to take care of their personnel, PNP Chief, General Debold M. Sinas has ordered the construction of facilities with 1,511 beds in the National Capital Region. So far, only 416 of the beds are occupied.

At the National Capital Region Police Office headquarters in Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City, only 213 of the 819 available beds are occupied as of press time.
