10 QC cops under restrictive custody
THE Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has confirmed that 10 cops assigned at the Holy Spirit Police Station (PS 14) have been relieved and placed under restrictive custody for alleged irregularities in carrying out an operation.
In a statement, the QCPD said that the issued firearms of all involved personnel are secured following their transfer to the District Personnel and Holding Admin Section (DPHAS) – or in a “floating status.”
Currently in the custody of the District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU), the concerned policemen are facing criminal and administrative charges.
The cases stemmed from an alleged irregularity during an Oplan Galugad on April 12where they arrested five men.
PS 14 initially reported it as a simple illegal gambling case.
A post on social media went viral that the cops hid something.
Validation conducted on April 22 or 10 days later, revealed that a handbag with suspected dried marijuana leaves was recovered but not documented, inventoried or turned over to the crime lab.
According to the QCPD, it was also found out that no charges under R.A. 9165 were filed, which simply constituted a case of neglect of duty and grave misconduct.
“The QCPD strongly condemns any act that erodes public trust. We assure the public that this matter is being handled with urgency and transparency. This is in full support of the directive of the NCRPO Regional Director, Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin to cleanse the ranks of the NCRPO of scalawags and uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in law enforcement,” a statement forwarded to the media reads.
