TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite – Two individuals and a store owner were struck by lightning in an open parking lot in Barangay San Agustin Thursday, at 4:00 p.m., August 18, 2022.

Edrin Musa, the store owner, was directly hit by lightning. He was dead on arrival at the hospital.

One of the victims, Mark Arjay Layno, 26, said it happened so fast that he “barely” remembers anything.

Layno didn’t get any injuries on his body, so after his medical checkup, he was sent home. He only complained of the pain in his back due to the impact of the lightning.

His other colleague was also struck by lightning, but he only suffered a mild shock and was not taken to the hospital.

According to the victim’s wife, Irene, her husband was struck by lightning from behind, and its powerful force turned his chest black.

The area where the incident happened is wide and is on higher ground. It also has an Acacia tree where a small shop stands.

According to a social media post by Trece Martires City Mayor Gemma Lubigan, she warned residents to be extra careful as thunder and lightning increase significantly in the afternoon, stay away from open fields, and avoid using mobile phones.
