Zambo city declares dengue outbreak

ZAMBOANGA City has declared a dengue outbreak after logging nearly 900 cases of the mosquito-borne disease.

The City Health Office (CHO) said a total of 893 dengue cases with 11 deaths were recorded from January 1 to April 2 this year.

The city has also exceeded the dengue threshold for four consecutive weeks, the CHO added.

In an emergency meeting on Friday, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (ZCDRRMC) approved a resolution declaring a “dengue outbreak” in Zamboanga City.

This, as the city exceeded the dengue epidemic threshold for four consecutive weeks, according to the City Health Office.

Local health officials said the dengue incidence rate per 100,000 population is 99.64.

Affected barangays are Boalan, Divisoria, Mercedes, Pasobolong, and Culianan. Rising cases were also reported in the villages of Zambowood, Sta. Barbara, Putik, Sta. Maria and San Roque.

Mayor Beng Climaco has ordered the reactivation of the dengue preparedness task force, which responded to a dengue outbreak in 2019.
