A “TARGET-listed’ drug personality in Western Visayas is now in jail after he yielded some P340,000 worth of shabu during a buy-bust operation in Panay, Capiz province, last Saturday, Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6) Director Brigadier General Leo M. Francisco said.

In a report to Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr., the PRO6 director said that the suspect was arrested in a sting conducted by members of the Panay Municipal Police Station (MPS) Drug Enforcement Unit and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Bgy. Calitan around 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Recovered were six plastic sachets containing some 50 grams of the so-called “poor man’s cocaine” valued at P340,000 and the buy-bust money.

The suspect is now being held at the Panay MPS lock-up facility facing a non-bailable offense for sale and possession of prohibited drugs under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, said Francisco.

The official said that the arrest of the suspect is in line with their intensified campaign against illegal drug trafficking and abuse in Western Visayas as ordered by Azurin.

“We are strengthening our efforts and utilizing all our resources to keep Western Visayas clear of illegal drugs and make the region a safe place to live, work and do business,” Francisco said.

The official also called on local residents to fully support their anti-drug campaign by reporting the presence of any illegal drug activities in their community. He assured that the identities of the informants will be kept in utmost secrecy.
