Women’s Martial Arts Festival at PSC

THE coming 8th Women’s Martial Arts Festival presented by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will be the main top8c in the People Sports Conversations this Thursday, Oct. 27.

Muaythai Association of the Philippines secretary-general Pearl Managuelod, Philippine Judo Federation preident Ali Sulit and Sambo Pilipinas head Paolo Tancontian will talk about the much-awaited event during the 1 p.m program sponsored by PAGCOR, PCSO, Pocari Sweat and Standard Insurance.

The Women’s Martial Arts Festival is scheduled Nov. 12 -17 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila and Philsports Complex in Pasig.

PSC Commissioner Olivia “Bong” Coo welcomed the return of the competitions,

“It is my pride and joy to meet and see our women and girls in martial arts showcase their prowess and discover young talents, some of whom may prove to be our next gold medalists,” said Coo.

“Women in sports have been very successful, since last year’s Olympic gold to this year’s numerous victories in football and karateka Junna Tsukii’s win in The World Games. This shows the need to continue our support and the programs that had been in place to nurture and further open the opportunity and equality in sports.” she added.

Coo also said more 1,000 participants are expected to compete in the six-day festival which cater to nine regular sports, namely, muaythai, sambo, pencak silat, wrestling, taekwondo, kickboxing, karate, jiu jitsu, kurash, and two demonstration sports in arnis and judo Registration will run until Oct. 28.
