THE Association of Women Legislators Foundation, Inc. (AWLFI) of the 19th Congress headed by Tingog Representative Yedda Marie Romualdez and Bulacan Fourth District Representative Linabelle Ruth Villarica, chairman and president respectively, spearheaded the inauguration of the new Women and Children Protection Unit at the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) yesterday in Mandaluyong.

This new facility was completed through the joint and collaborative effort of the NCMH headed by Director Noel Reyes and the 86-strong women legislators group in association with the Mandaluyong City Government.

Funded by the AWLFI, the project marks another breakthrough in their commitment to support Republic Act Number 11036 or the Philippine Mental Health Law, the first mental health legislative act in the history of the Philippines, which lays down the groundwork for the delivery of integrated mental health services to the most vulnerable in the country.

In her speech, Villarica expressed gratitude to House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez for his financial support that will go towards the furnishing of the new building.

Former President and incumbent Pampanga Second District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Mandaluyong Representative Neptali Gonzales II, Vice Mayor Carmelita “Menchie” Abalos and NCMH officials joined the inauguration and blessing by Fr. Ernesto Panelo.
