TWO police officers saved a woman from a violent death after falling from raging waterfalls in Biliran.

Maj. Michael John Astorga, chief of the Naval Municipal Police Station in Biliran, and Maj. Jefferson Relente of the Police Regional Office 8 Finance Service were taking souvenir photos at the Ulan-Ulan Falls in Almeria when they saw a woman falling from the top of the falls.

The victim, 51-year-old Luzviminda Taruyo, lost consciousness apparently due to the impact of the fall, which is estimated to be approximately 30-meters high.

The two police officers immediately responded to save the victim by jumping into the waters. Both suffered bruises in their bodies due to the strong water current but were relieved to have saved the woman’s life.

Once taken to safer ground, Taruyo was also attended to by Staff Sgt. Arla Pacencia, a registered nurse, who gave first aid to the victim before she was taken to the Biliran Provincial Hospital for proper medical attention.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar commended the cops for their swift action that saved the life of Taruyo.

“I commend these police officers for risking their own lives to save the victim. Sa kabila ng malakas na agos ng tubig at mga malalaking bato na nakaharang sa kanilang daanan ay hindi nila ito ininda para lang mailigtas ang buhay ng isa nating kababayan,” he said.

“Saludo ako sa ginawa ng aming dalawang pulis dahil ito ay isa sa napakarami nang patunay na handa ang pulis na ilagay ang buhay nila sa alanganin makatulong lang sa ating mga kababayan,” he added.

The amazing Ulan-Ulan Falls surrounded by dense tropical forest in Almeria, Biliran is one of the most famous tourist spots in the province.
