WIN-WIN SOLUTION
“WE will try to find a win-win solution for our people and, of course, those in the oil industry.”
This is what will be discussed Monday afternoon in the meeting between the oil players and House Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, together with the House Committee on Energy at the Batasang Pambansa Complex.
According to the House leader who set the meeting with the oil players, “everyone is struggling due to the high cost of living caused by oil price hikes, but this is also influenced by the global trade or world market.”
“We want to know their (oil players) suggestions to alleviate the hardships of our fellow countrymen due to the constant rise in petroleum prices,” said Romualdez.
The lawmaker from Leyte added, “On our part in the government, we can compromise… perhaps what we can initially offer is a review of excise tax or value-added tax.”
“Maybe we can suspend excise or VAT if it is really necessary or depending on the Palace’s plan based on our report after this meeting,” Romualdez added.
Meanwhile, Speaker Romualdez is also planning to talk to canned goods and basic food manufacturers, as well as the supermarket association, after these groups hinted at raising their product prices.
“We will try to convince them if they can postpone price increases until after Christmas in the spirit of Christmas,” the Speaker noted.
“We understand that they are also struggling due to the high prices of raw materials… but maybe they can find a way to manage it until Christmas,” Romualdez further stated.
Speaker Romualdez concluded, “The government is doing its best to alleviate the suffering of our people, but what we are experiencing is a world crisis.”
“That’s why various agencies are ready to provide assistance because the government also feels the people’s situation,” the lawmaker added.”
