Williams shines as Phoenix wins again

PHOENIX Super LPG continued its rise to the top by beating Terrafirma, 103-84, in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Jonathan Williams provided the firepower as he finished with 29 points on 12-of-20 shooting in 37 minutes for the Fuel Masters, who vaulted to solo second place with their fourth win in five matches.

Williams also added 13 rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block.for Phoenix of coach Jamike Jarin.

Four other players — RJ Jazul (13 points), Jason Perkins (11 points,five rebounds), Ricci Rivero (10 poitns) and Tyler Tio (10 points) — also stepped up for the Fuel Masters, who led by as many as 30 points against the Dyip, 91-61, with 7:36 left.

Phoenix a 4-1 record equaled the franchise’s best five-game start in an import-laden conference and coach Jarin was visibly very happy.

“We’re just playing really good selfless basketball and one of the reasons is (pointing to Williams) the guy on my left,” said Jarin.

“Jonathan Williams is really playing well. He’s playing very selfless and he’s also leading the team, so a lot of credit has to go to J3 here,” added Jarin.

“And also everybody’s just contributing in their own little way, screening, rebounding, running. Thise little stuff you don’t see in the stats. But it’s a collective effort, both offensively and defensively.”

Import Thomas De Thaey topscored in Terrafirma’s losing effort with.double- double performance of 18 points on 8-of-18 and 14 rebounds in 33 minutes of action.

.Javier Gomez De Liano contributed 13 points and six rebounds, while Ed Daquioag and Juami Tiongson scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Terrafirma, which now holds a record of two wins and three losses.
