THE 65-year-old father must have boiled with rage. Just steps from him was the horrific sight of a gun poked at his daughter who was being slapped by her husband, a cop. “Nobody does that to my daughter!,” the dad most likely thought as he grabbed his son-in-law’s pistol and allegedly shot him to death.

The incident occurred Saturday morning in Cabanatuan City.

Police identified the fatality as Corporal Marlon De Guzman, assigned with the Aliaga municipal police station. Arrested was his father-in-law, Alberto Manigao, businessman, both of Batisan St., Bgy. Aduas Norte, Cabanatuan City.

City police head Lt. Col. Barnard Danie Dasugo said the shooting was triggered after the suspect came to the rescue of his daughter while she was in the middle of a heated argument with her husband at 12:30 a.m.

Dasugo said the father-in-law saw his daughter being slapped by her husband with a gun also poked at her.

Manigao grabbed De Guzman’s pistol and allegedly shot him repeatedly in different parts of the body, killing him on the spot.

The lawman’s wife was rushed to the Good Samaritan Hospital in Cabanatuan City for treatment of a gunshot wound in the right arm.

“The timely response of members of the Patrulya ng Bayan of the Cabanatuan City police has resulted in the arrest of the suspect,” said Dasugo.

Appropriate charges are set to be filed against the arrested suspect.
