What keeps Marion busy
MARION Aunor has the right pedigree as a singer-actress. Her mom, Lala Aunor, used to be part of the Apat na Sikat and her aunt, Nora Aunor, is a much-awarded singer and actress. She started as a singer when she joined Himig Handog 2013 with her song “If You Ever Change Your Mind” and won 3rd place.
She signed up first with Star Music and dropped her family name. Later on, she used the name Marione. She signed up with Viva in 2018 and later reverted back to her full name Marion Aunor.
She also wrote unforgettable theme songs for hit movies such as “Akala” for ‘The Day After Valentine’ (with more than 27 million streams), “Delikado” from “Just A Stranger” and the most recent, the song “Maganda Kahit Matanda” for the Sharon Cuneta-starrer “Revirginized.” All these and the handful of singles she’s released as a solo artist or on collaborations prove that Marion is indeed one of the most creative acts in Pinoy pop today.
She has now put up her own music label, Wild Dreams Records, partnering with Viva. Marion took a master certificate course in songwriting from Berklee College of Music in Boston, became a Grammy/Recording Academy member, and joined a number of international songwriting conventions. All of this is in preparation for her next role as head of Wild Dreams Records. She is now releasing her first single for Wild Dreams, “Kama”, on all streaming platforms since September 8.
“It’s a hugot song with some electronic elements, made during the quarantine and is about feeling lonely, missing someone and wondering whether he misses you back,” she says. “Medyo sultry ang dating. We’ve shot a music video for ‘Kama’ and we really used my own bed in it. The bed was where I wrote the song mismo. The music video was shot on a hill in Tagaytay and my bed was transported there piece by piece then assembled uli roon.”
What made her decide to put up her own record label? “It’s meant not only for me but I’m also looking for new artists to help them pursue their passion and develop great new music that we can offer sa OPM industry natin. Pero baby steps muna at ako ‘yung first artist releasing my single. Hopefully, I’ll release other singles hanggang makabuo ng isang album and later, maybe, put up a concert kung wala nang pandemic as I miss performing for a live audience.”
Marion has also branched out into acting now that she’s with Viva. She first did “Kaka” with Jerald Napoles and Sunshine Guimary then “Revirginized” with no less than Sharon Cuneta. So how is it being a singer-actress?
“I enjoy acting and right now, I’ve just finished shooting a new movie with Direk Darryl Yap, ‘Sarap Mong Patayin’, where they’re also using one of my songs in the soundtrack. Then I’m starting another new movie with Direk Nuel Naval.”
How is it acting with Sharon Cuneta in “Revirginized”? “I love Tita Sharon. Noon ko pa siya gustong ma-meet in person, so I was excited when I learned I’d be part of her movie. I wrote a song for her, ‘Lantern’, which she included in her album. We shot for one week in Subic and she was like a mom to all of us sa set. She made lots of kuwentos and even gave us advice us about lovelife.
Dream come true for me to work with her.”
