AFTER several weeks of speculations, incumbent Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez and his wife, Leyte 4th District Representative Lucy Torres-Gomez, have finally publicly declared their support for Partido ng Federal ng Pilipinas standard-bearer Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos’ presidential bid in the upcoming 2022 elections.

On a Facebook page on Tuesday, Richard Gomez, an award-winning actor turned-public servant, said that Marcos is the only presidential aspirant that has responded to their calls and aided Ormoc City in times of disasters and emergencies.

“Sa kanilang lahat na tumatakbo, siya lang ang nakatulong sa Ormoc City during disasters and difficult times. Madaling lapitan, madaling kausapin,” Richard Gomez said in his FB post.

In a radio interview last December 6, 2021, Representative Lucy Torres-Gomez narrated several instances when Marcos provided aid to Ormoc City.

“I give you a concrete example, and I don’t know if BBM remembers this, but back when Yolanda happened, he was not part of the administration, but one of the very first to help Ormoc was BBM and his family,” Rep. Torres-Gomez said in the interview.

“And through Irene (Marcos-Araneta), BBM sent Ormoc clean water and a gadget from some foreign company for clean water… going to the different barangays demonstrating how that is used and then having access to clean water at a very crucial time, that’s one,” Rep. Torres-Gomez added.

Torres-Gomez also noted Marcos’ help to Ormoc City when it was struck by an earthquake in 2017. The former senator was still able to muster aid for the city despite not being in public office following the 2016 elections.

“If you really look at it, if you look at the dynamics, you had just lost an election. You didn’t make it back in 2016, but you were the first to be on the ground after the earthquake happened,” Torres-Gomez added.

The public announcement came a day after the Gomezes met with Marcos in a Quezon City restaurant on Monday.
