SECURITY troops have captured a former member of the New People’s Army (NPA) wanted for a string of criminal charges in Palawan, a report to Philippine National Police Officer-in-Charge (PNP-OIC) Lieutenant General Vicente D. Danao Jr. said on Saturday.

The suspect with aliases “Ka Rojan”, “Mikee”, and “Rocky” was arrested in his hiding place in Bgy. Minara in Roxas municipality last Monday on the strength of a warrant for violation of Republic Act 9851 or the Crimes Against International Humanitarian Law, Genocide and Other Crimes Against Humanity and RA 10364 or the Expanded Anti-Trafficking Persons Act of 2012, said PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) Director Major Gen. Eliseo DC Cruz.

The official said that the arrest of the 24-year-old former member of the NPA’s Bienvenido Vallber Command based in Palawan province was ordered by Judge Emmanuel Artazo of the Taytay, Palawan Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 14.

Maj. Gen. Cruz said officers from the CIDG Palawan Field Unit, the Philippine Marines, and the Police Regional Office 4-B (PRO 4B) under Brig. Gen. Sydney S. Hernia tracked down the suspect in his hiding place.

He said the criminal charges were filed against the accused by the CIDG Palawan Field Unit before the Palawan Provincial Prosecutor’s Office on November 10, 2021. The Taytay RTC Br. 14 eventually handled the case.

The official said that the suspect used to be an NPA “political guide” in the province and is now under the custody of the CIDG Palawan.
