Wang’s-Letran in big win vs Marinero

BRENT Paraiso towed Wangs Basketball @26-Letran to a 70-64 win Marinerong Pilipino to seize the solo lead in the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

The veteran guard delivered six of the Knights’ last eight points to remain perfect in three games.

“Brent is a champion player at the same time veteran, so talagang nag-rely kami sa kanya,” said assistant coach Rensy Bajar of Paraiso, who came through with 14 points on 3-of-6 shooting from rainbow country, on top of five rebounds and two assists.

Earlier, EcoOil-La Salle bested Centro Escolar University, 76-65, to post its second victory in three matches.

The Skippers went on a 21-4 tear to tie the game at 58-58 with 3:47 remaining.

With Wang’s-Letran holding a precarious 62-60 lead in the final 1:59, Paraiso hit a big three and completed a tough and-one play to give his side the 68-62 lead with 36.4 seconds left.

Kurt Reyson also had 14 points to go with eight boards, three assists and two steals, while rookie Kobe Monje scored 13 off the bench for the Knights..

Jollo Go took the scoring mantle for Marinerong Pilipino with 20 points on 5-of-11 three-point shooting, alongside six rebounds and three assists, as Juan Gomez de Liaño struggled on a 2-of-9 shooting from the field to finish with 10 points.

The Scorpions took a 59-58 lead when the Green Archers scored 16 unanswered points to build a 74-59 edge with 1:28 remaining.

“We didn’t play the way we were supposed to do in the first three quarters. Luckily, we were able to regroup and we tightened up on defense,” said coach Derick Pumaren after EcoOil-La Salle joined Marinerong Pilipino and idle Adalem Construction-St. Clare in second spot.

CJ Austria had 18 points, four assists and three rebounds while Mike Phillips contributed 12 points, 11 boards, two steals and two blocks for the Green Archers, whp put their 64-84 blowout loss to the Skippers last Tuesday behind.
