The TnT Triple Giga reasserted their status as the Alpha Team of the PBA 3×3, scooping up the Season 3 First Conference crown at the expense of Cavitex, 21-18, Sunday night at Market! Market!
Gryann Mendoza and Almond Vosotros stepped up to the plate as the Triple Giga fought back from 7-12 and 13-15 deficits and beat the Braves towards the finish line for the ultimate prize.
TNT’s latest triumph, worth P750,000, continued the hot streak of the franchise now stretching to five straight conferences.
The Triple Giga scored their breakthrough in the Third Conference of Season 1 then swept the three tournaments in the second season.
“Sobrang special to win our fifth championship. Naisip namin this is the only way na masuklian namin ang TNT management sa lahat ng suporta nila,” said Vosotros, who lost his scoring title to Cavitex’s Jorey Napoles in the season-opener but had the last laugh in the ultimate battle for conference honors.
Mendoza led TnT’s offensives against Cavitex, firing 10 spiked by four triples, the last of which giving the Triple Giga a 17-15 lead.
Vosotros rifled in seven, including the winning deuce, to go with five rebounds and six assists, the last of which enabled Lervin Flores to score the go-ahead layup after Bong Galanza tied it at 17-all.
Flores finished with three markers while Samboy de Leon added one in the clincher.
Dom Fajaro, Napoles and Galanza shot seven, six and five, respectively, while Ken Ighalo wound up scoreless for the Braves, who settled for runner-up honors and P250,000.
Second-seeded TnT and No. 1 Cavitex set an explosive finale after disposing of No. 3 Barangay Ginebra, 21-16, and No. 4 Meralco in overtime, 17-16, respectively.
Meralco’s Joseph Sedurifa, Reymar Caduyac, Patrick Maagderberg and Bryan Santos beat Barangay Ginebra’s Donald Gumaru, Ralph Salcedo, Ralph Cu and Kim Aurin in the duel for third, 18-14.
