THE incoming administration considers veteran election lawyer Manuelito Luna to be the next chairman of the Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG), an agency under the administrative supervision of the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Documents showed that Luna was strongly endorsed, among others, by Sultan Kudarat Governor Suhatro Tan Mangudadatu and the Aviation Volunteers for Marcos (AVM).

In his endorsement letter, Mangudadatu said that Luna, if appointed, would be an “asset” in the campaign against corruption, considering his experience as a former commissioner of the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC).

“On my honor, may I respectfully endorse former Commissioner, Atty. Manuelito D.LR. Luna for consideration as Chairman of the PCGG, he being an experienced graft buster and Commissioner of the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (Presidential Assistant II), Office of the President,” the endorsement letter read.

President-in-waiting Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier said he plans to “revitalize” the PCGG to make it more effective.

Sought for comment, Luna said it was an “honor” to be nominated as the next PCGG chairman.

“I would be very willing to serve as the graft buster of the incoming administration if given the opportunity or in any other capacity that the incoming President may deem best for my qualification,” he said. By Hector Lawas
