DOLLY Verzosa produced her best game of the season as Jose Rizal University upended University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, 25-19, 25-20, 20-25, 25-18, to halt a three-match slide in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at the Paco Arena.

Playing with a sense of urgency with their Final Four bid on the line, Verzosa had 17 points, 23 digs and 13 receptions as the Lady Bombers improved to 3-3 to gain a share of fifth place.

“I’m so happy sa outcome ng game namin,” said Verzosa, who is on her final year with JRU.

Coach Mia Tioseco had all praises for Verzosa for the leadership she provided for the Lady Bombers.

“Alam ko naman na kaya niya from the very beginning,” said Tioseco on Verzosa.

Earlier, Emilio Aguinaldo College finally entered the win column with a 26-28, 25-17, 27-25, 25-17 conquest of Lyceum of the Philippines University.

Riza Rose had five blocks and two service aces to finish with 12 points while Renesa Melgar and May Ruiz chipped in 10 points apiece for JRU, which only trails idle Mapua (3-2) by half-a-game.

The Lady Altas, who were led bu Mary Rhose Dapol’s 10 points and 13 digs, fell to 2-4

A young team which is trying to prove their worth this season, coach Rod Palmero had a sigh of relief after the Lady Generals ended a five-match losing skid.

“Masaya ako para sa kanila,” said a misty-eyed Palmero after the match.

Krizzia Reyes led EAC with 24 points, 13 digs and six receptions while Cathrine Almazan followed up her 28-point outing against San Beda with 14 points.

The loss, the third in six matches, dropped the Lady Pirates outside of the top four range, tying the Lady Bombers in fifth spot.

LPU took the extended first set after Denise Dolorito aced her jump serve.

But the Lady Pirates struggled in the next three as Reyes and Almazan were relentless in delivering the offense foe the Lady Generals.

Jewel Maligmat came through with 16 points, including two service aces, while Dolorito also had two aces to finish with 14 points.
