Vera Cruz is new JTF COVID-19 Shield head

NEWLY-DESIGNATED Philippine National Police Deputy Chief for Operations Lieutenant General Joselito M. Vera Cruz on Tuesday was designated as the commander of the Joint Task Force COVID Shield vice Lt. Gen. Cesar Hawthorne R. Binag who will be retiring from the force this coming Saturday.

According to PNP chief, General Debold M. Sinas, Lt. Gen. Vera Cruz as new Joint Task Force COVID Shield commander will lead the enforcement arm of the national government in the implementation of quarantine rules and health protocols.

“As the new commander of this task force, I expect PLtGen Vera Cruz will continue the plans and programs of the previous commander and enforce strict quarantine rules in the country to mitigate the spread of the virus while waiting for the available vaccines,” Gen. Sinas said.

The JTF COVID-19 Shield is composed of members of the PNP, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine Coast Guard, and the Bureau of Fire Protection.

Gen. Sinas has also designated Lt. Gen. Israel Ephraim T. Dickson as the new PNP Chief Directorial Staff vice Vera Cruz following the retirement of Binag. Dickson used to be the director of the PNP Directorate for Integrated Police Operations-Northern Luzon.

Gen. Sinas, Vera Cruz and Dickson, along with PNP Deputy Chief for Administration and concurrent commander of the Administrative Support to Joint Task Force COVID Shield, Lt. Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar are all members of Philippine Military Academy ‘Hinirang’ Class of 1987.
