Veloso moved to CIC regular dorm
THE five-day quarantine period of Mary Jane Veloso ended on Thursday prompting her transfer to a regular dorm at the Reception and Diagnostic Center (RDC) at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City.
Bureau of Corrections Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. said Veloso will remain at the RDC for the next 55 days, during which she will undergo mandatory orientation, diagnostics, and classification.
Catapang explained this initial phase is designed to help new Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) like Veloso familiarize themselves with the rules and regulations of the corrections facility, as well as the rights and privileges afforded to them.
The orientation will also provide vital information regarding various rehabilitation programs, health services, time allowances, and grievance mechanisms accessible to individuals under custody.
According to CT/Supt. Marjorie Ann Sanidad, Acting Supt. of CIW, Veloso will be staying at a regular dorm measuring 48×32 feet long with 30 newly received PDLs.
This arrangement not only promotes a sense of community but also emphasizes the importance of shared experiences and mutual support among the women as they embark on their individual paths toward reform and rehabilitation, Sanidad said.
Meanwhile, Catapang ordered the CIW to translate Veloso’s prison records from Indonesia which were documented in Bahasa.
This translation is crucial for the Bucor as it will enable them to assess whether Veloso’s incarceration in Indonesia can be officially recognized as valid prison time under their jurisdiction.
