QUEZON City Councilor PM Vargas has vowed to expand and institutionalize the government’s free medicines program for poor families in all government hospitals nationwide in the next Congress.

The Libreng Gamot Para sa Masa Program (LINGAP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) was launched on March 2017 in six hospitals nationwide to provide indigents free access to prescription medicines. As of June 2018, the program covers 29 hospitals nationwide and has served 64, 778 indigent patients.

Currently, the “Free Medicine for the Poor Bill” is filed in the 18th Congress principally authored by his brother, Rep. Alfred Vargas.

Under the Vargas leadership, 12,527 beneficiaries received medical assistance while more than 40,000 free vaccines were provided in QC District 5 with the help of the QC government and private partners.

Coun. Vargas is currently running for congressman to succeed his brother in the Fifth District of Quezon City in the May 9 elections.
