ZARAGOSA, Nueva Ecija — A van-driving man, said to be a former Overseas Filipino Worker from the United Arab Emirates, was nabbed after a brief chase when operatives shoot at the vehicle’s tire during an anti-illegal drug operation conducted on Wednesday night here.

Town police head Major Jaime Ferrer said his men were forced to shoot the left rear tire of the said vehicle being driven by suspect Jesus Marcos, 40, of San Juan De Valdez, San Jose, Tarlac when he tried to escape after selling a P1000-worth of shabu to an undercover operative in Bgy. Sto. Rosario Young at 6:20 p.m.

“Ex-abroad iyang suspect base sa Bureau of Immigration, galing ng Dubai, kaya umuwi ‘yan galing abroad nagka-problema doon at nasa drugs watchlist din siya ng bayan ng San Jose, Tarlac. Positive lahat ang lab test sa kaniya, gumagamit at nagbebenta ng drugs talaga, confirmed,” said Ferrer in his text message to the Journal Group on Thursday.

Seized from the suspect’s possession were four plastic sachets containing shabu, two P500-bill in marked money, an improvised tooter and alcohol burner, and a red Vivo mobile phone.

Ferrer said his men also impounded the suspect’s vehicle, a gray metallic Toyota Innova with license plate AAJ-8332.

During the buy-bust, he said the suspect became suspicious after consummating the drug deal and tried to drive away with his vehicle. However, pursuing lawmen caught up with him after shooting the van’s left rear tire.

Ferrer said charges for violation of Sections 5 and 11 of Article II of Republic Act 9165 are being readied for filing against the arrested suspect.
