THE UST Publishing House (USTPH) recently released new titles and is set to launch more in the following weeks. Beginning this list is veteran screenwriter Ricky Lee, who was recently conferred the Order of National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts. Lee is set to release another book with the USTPH, titled Mga Screenplays ni Ricky Lee – Vol. 1: Brutal, Moral, Karnal—the first in an ongoing series featuring his works that have become cult classics in Philippine cinema, directed by Marilou Diaz-Abaya, who was also posthumously declared as National Artist for Film.

For the first time in the Philippines, the USTPH has published Chuckberry Pascual’s Filipino translation of the internationally acclaimed novel Ilustrado by Miguel Syjuco. Ilustrado is the first and only Man Asian Literary prize-winning novel by a Filipino.

Another forthcoming title in fiction is Shooting the Zombie Apocalypse by U Z. Eliserio, a collection of speculative short stories replete with biting humor and disturbing insights.

Newly released titles on the bookstore’s nonfiction shelves include Duterte Watch: Descent into Authoritarianism, a compilation of socio-political commentaries by journalist Vergel Santos, whose other work The News Writing Formula (Second Edition), an influential manual on journalism, was also published by the USTPH; and ASEAN as an International Organization: International Law and Region-Building in Southeast Asia by José Duke Bagulaya, which offers a comprehensive analysis of ASEAN. Faith & Psychology: A Walk-Through on the Filipino Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) by Assoc. Prof. Milagros C. Arrevillaga, PhD, a scholarly research on communal psychology within ecclesial communities, is set to be released within the month.

Recently published in creative nonfiction is The Holy Wife by Ting Pantoja-Mañalac, a collection of personal stories that ruminate on God’s gentle love. A forthcoming collection of travel essays, From Manila to the World by Paolo Mangahas, compiles the author’s bizarre and insightful stories across the globe.

The first poetry title of the year is All My Distances Point to Home by King Llanza, the author’s debut poetry collection and recently released by the USTPH this month. Llanza is a finalist for the 2021 Gaudy Boy Poetry Book Prize.
