US execs, Asean envoys discuss summit outcomes, regional issues
THE ASEAN Committee in Washington D.C. (ACW) and officials from the U.S. Department of State (DoS) and National Security Council (NSC) discussed the recently concluded 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits during a lunch hosted by the Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C.
Deputy Secretary of State Dr. Kurt Campbell identified technology as an interest and focus area of the US for ASEAN-US cooperation. This follows the issuance of an ASEAN-U.S. Leaders’ Statement on Promoting Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence during the 12th ASEAN-U.S. Summit in Vientiane, Lao PDR, on 11 October 2024.
The lunch also provided an opportunity for the ASEAN Ambassadors and US officials to discuss pressing regional issues and plan out cooperative activities for the rest of the year.
The Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C. is currently Chair of the ACW from September to December 2024.
