UP archers hit PUAL bulls’eye
UNIVERSITY of the Philippines’ Jonathan Ebbinghans Reaport and Girvin Cullen Nigel Garcia captured the gold medal in 70M qualification and Olympic round in the first Philippine University Archery League (PUAL) at PUP Oval Field in Sta Mesa Manila last weekend.
Reaport, a national team member, defeated teammate Garcia and Benjamin Aurellano of University of the East to claim the gold in qualification round.
Garcia quickly got back in Olympic round as he won over Renian Keith Naweh of University of Baguio and Reaport to bag the gold medal.
University of Baguio archer Alon Yuan Jucutan bested UP’s Wesley Joshua Tanco and Ryan Jacob Tanco in qualifiaction and Olympic round to pocket two gold medals in 50M Compound Bow.
PUAL chairman Christian Tan awarded the medals to the winners, assisted by vice chairman Dr. Robert Milton Calo, tournament director Allan Soria, PUP Sports Director Ron Hubbard and Finance head Ms.Cecille Sarmiento.
Tan later congratulated and thanked all the archers who participated in the two-day event.
The winners will represent the Philippines in next year’s World Univesity Games in Germany.
In the women’s division, Shanylle Samson of University of Baguio bagged the gold medal in 70M Recurve qualification over Keturah Colleen Gonzales of University of Cordilleras and Hazel Joy Daliva of Tarlac Agricultural University.
Gonzales bounced back in the Olympic round, claiming the gold against Samson and Alyssa Faye Felipe of TAU.
Gonzales, a 20-year-old Behavioral Science student at University of Cordilleras, was fresh from World Archery Philippines (WAP) competition in Zamboanga last month.
She finished 3rd in qualification round then settled for bronze medal in Olympic round in Open Category.
PUP Abreia Palma clinched the gold medal in women’s Compound bow.
In the team event, University of the Philippines defeated University of Baguio and Polytechnic University of the Philippines to clinch the gold.
The Cardinals, led by Naweh, Edison Jacoba and Cyrus Ebenezer Obenita, settled for silver while PUP’s Ernel Jenwin Cortes, Rotsen Vinluan and Jershey Salem got the bronze.
Mirlee Valerie Balagso beat PUP trio of Trina Mae Dilla Fernandez, Aaliyah Reign Sanchez and Askachanel Manansala to bag the gold medal.
A total of 49 archers participated in the inagural tournament supported by Healthy Options, Fronte Motors, Baker’s Fair, Philippine AirLines, LT Group Inc, Seascape, Bestank and PAGCOR. Albert Andaya
