UMak in big starts

HOST University of Makati completed a double celebration by beating Malaya Football Club at the start of the Pacquiao 3-in-1 Challengers Cup at the University of Makati Football Stadium last Oct. 28.

The UMAK Falcons brought down Malaya FC, 2-1, in the men’s 23Under class, while the Herons edged their women’s counterparts, 4-3, in a pair of thrilling victories in the tournament organized by Isports Management Corporation in cooperation with YFL.PH and host University of Makati.’

A total of 13 teams — eight in U23 men’s division and five in the women’s side — are participating in the weekend-only games.

In the U23 Men’s, the teams are Forza FC, Kaya FC, Adamson University FC, Polytechnic University of the Philippines FC, Malaya A, Malaya B, Chronos FC and UMak FC.

The ladies division will have Azurri C, Forza FC, UMak, Malaya FC and Nomads FC.

The eight teams in the men’s U23 tournament are divided into two groups, with the top two teams from each group after a single round robin eliminations advancing to the knockout semifinals.

The five teams in the women’s open category will play a single-round tournament with the top two teams battling in the knockout finals right away.

Organizers said everyone is invited to watch the games free of charge. Most matches are played on a weekend.
