DEPARTMENT of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista is looking at the Gatwick Airport in the United Kingdom (UK) as a template for operations that will be adopted to improve the operations of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

During President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s visit to London’s Gatwick Airport last Friday, the Chief Executive sought to explore improvement and enhancement of the country’s own airport operations, facilities, and service delivery.

Bautista accompanied President Marcos Jr. and House Speaker Martin Romualdez on a comprehensive tour of Gatwick Airport. They explored first-hand the array of best practices that are currently being implemented in the airport.

The Chief Executive met with officials from the Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) – one of the world’s largest infrastructure investors in London and the company that co-manages the airport and discussed the airport’s exceptional infrastructure, cutting-edge technology, and operations were discussed.

As a result, the GIP has conveyed its commitment to invest in the country to help in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the transportation system.
