TECHNOLOGICAL University of the Philippines and Immaculada Conception College split their games in the Philippine University Volleyball League (PUVL) at PCU gym in Malate Manila.
The Grayhawks outlasted ICC, 25-23, 19-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-13 in men’s division while the Lady Blue Hawks outplayed TUP, in straight set 25-12, 25-21, 25-13 in the women’s category.
With spikers Jay-at Ariana, Geoff Dela Cruz and Ram Valenciano hititing their timely spikes and middle blocker Kenneth Suncio providing good defense in the fifth set, the Grayhawks earned their second win in three matches.
Setter Andrew Payawal and Libero Clarence Elbanbuena also shone for coach Aljun Turing’s squad.
NCAA powerhouse University of Perpetual Help Dalta System is still on top with 5-1 win-loss record mark while UAAP champion National Univeristy remains undefeated with 4-0 mark.
ICC, handled by coach Edgar Barroga, rode on spikers Gelah Lopez, Ednelle Maniquis, Jhuelle Labago and Angeliz Cosme, secured its fourth win in six outing for solo third place behind UPHDS and Malayan University.
Airah Tutanes and Hershey Ronda alternated in setting the play for the Caloocan City- based school, which is personally managed by school president Marco Agana.
The champion team will represent the country in the upcoming Asian Regional meets.
The nine-team tournament is supervised by the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP) and officiated by McRobertz Sports Academy.
