TWO known personalities in public service joined forces– broadcaster Erwin Tulfo and Atty. Benhur Abalos Jr. –to promote their advocacies of safety and justice in the Senate.

They recently launched their tandem, which would be called “Kakampi ng Inaapi.”

“Sa Senado, kaligtasan at hustisya ang aming misyon,” said Tulfo, who is a veteran journalist known for his fearless stand against illegalities and abuses. Tulfo is also known for extending a helping hand to ordinary citizens who are seeking justice.

According to Tulfo, “Ang inaapi ay kinakailangang ipagtanggol.”

With him is Abalos, who is the former secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), who stressed on the importance of being accountable to the law.

“Kung may kasalanan, dapat managot sa batas,” said Abalos who is a lawyer and served as mayor of Mandaluyong City for 15 years.

Under his leadership, the barangay-based anti-drug campaigns became successful, he strengthened peace and order in communities, and fought against syndicates and illegal drugs.

“Kailangan ng aksyon, walang palakasan,” stressed Tulfo, who criticized any form of favoritism in government. He appealed for an unbiased effective solution.

While Abalos gave importance on working together in order to achieve the real kind of justice.

“Ang katarungan ay makakamit kung sama-sama tayo sa Tama at Tapat na Pagkilos,” said he, who believed that leaders and the citizenry working together is the key to resolving the problems of the country.

During his term as DILG Secretary, they were able to apprehend and send to jail high-profile personalities such as Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, Alice Guo and the serial rapist Teddy Jay Mejia, after hiding from the law.

When Abalos was mayor, Mandaluyong was number 1 in nutrition and education, including providing programs for the vulnerable sector such as those persons with disabilities and the informal settlers.

The Tulfo-Abalos tandem in the Senate is also committed to fulfilling their pledge to prioritize the safety of every Filipino and making sure to be fair to everyone in the discharge of justice.

As a candidate for senator, among those being pushed by Abalos is amending the Local Government Code of 1991, to hasten the system to benefit those intending to put up businesses in the country, and institutionalizing the lending and giving of aid to farmers such as giving discounts to real property taxes.
